Make a new PAGE – ignore ‘Posts’:
– Login to WordPress > Dashboard Menu > Pages > Add New
– Give it a title
– Type in content in the text editing window
– Project pages: Make title of work bold, followed by year
– If a Photography project, select ‘photography’ as a ‘parent page‘ from right hand side of the dashboard and ‘order‘ where it should appear in the pages list
– Click ‘Publish‘ on right hand side of Dashboard when done and Update each time you edit the content
– Link page to an image on the Photography index page: Click Link icon on toolbar > click ‘link options’ > select page you want the image to link with. Press Update
– You can keep the site page open in another tab to quickly view the changes look OK after updating. Remember to refresh the browser window after each update to see the changes
Typesetting
No need to format type in any way if simply written in. If copy-pasted from another site, you may need to ‘clear formatting’ with eraser-tool from the text-editing toolbar.
No need to change type size. Small type only used in ‘back to index’ link on Photography project-pages, which you can simply copy-paste from an existing page
Left-alignment used throughout.
Use bold for titles
Adding Images to Pages
– Click ‘Add Media’ above the text editing window
– Click ‘Upload Files’ in the Media window > select the file from your computer you wish to bring into the Media Library
– Click ‘Insert into Page’
– Click image > click pen-icon to edit the image or to add a caption
– Caption appears on index page but delete caption when image is on the main project space
– Sometimes image goes to the top of the page after making a caption. Content easier to re-order in ‘Text’ mode of the editing window (top-right corner of editing window)
– Horizontal images, max out size to 1000px: Click pen icon after placing image on page > Display Settings > Size > Custom size >type in 1000px for width, height adjust proportionally
– Copy ‘back to index’ link from an existing project page and paste at the end of a page
Technical info on a caption
– On a project page, click the pen-icon to edit the caption
– After the name type in short code <br> and continue immediately with the format, add comma, then dimensions. This places the techincal info on a line below the title but still keeps it within the caption
– Index page captions only have the title, no technical info
Adding Pages to the Menu
– Dashboard Menu > Appearance > Menus
– In the Pages box, click the page you want to add, click Add to Menu
– In Menu Structure box, drag the grey bar to arrange the menu order
– Make a Project page a submenu item by nudging the grey bar a bit to right, while it’s under ‘photography’. Drag to correct location in menu
Video-section
Unlike Photography, Video doesn’t have an index page, embedded videos are to be simply placed in a row one after another embed.
If you wish to add brief descriptions of each video, you can do it in same way as on the individual Photography work pages.
Embedding videos to Video-section
Go to your video’s Vimeo page
> click ‘Share’ on the video screen (paper plane symbol)
> Click small type ‘show options’ next to Embed field
> bottom of the box, unclick all boxes in ‘Intro’ + unclick ‘Show text link underneath this video’
> copy the iframe code from Embed field
> go to Video page in Dashboard
> Click ‘Text’ tab on top-right corner of the editing field
> Paste in the iframe code + click Update
> Add the video title on top of the video field + Update
Photography section: Three Columns Index page
Three columns exist now on Photography index page. To add content, place images between the bits of short code (see below), arranging as you see best.
Index images are set on medium size
If you need to re-create another page with 3 columns, follow these steps:
1. Click Easy Columns symbol on the editing tools toolbar
2. Select the first option the left: 1/3 1/3 1/3
3. You get this short code:
4. Place this short code in front of the first image in the column:
and this after the last image in the first column:
5. Repeat for the 2nd column
6. For third column (3rd item, right hand side):
and this in the end of third item:
Housekeeping to avoid hacks
If WordPress hasn’t automatically updated, always update if one is available – red dot by the dashboard tells you this. Also update plugins.
